Process
Here’s how you’ll complete the process:
The Search
1. Consult the handbook to make sure everyone is clear on the nine photo composition elements
2. Divide the categories among the three members (two each)
3. Individually scour the Internet for at least five photographs in each category that meet the minimum criteria for consideration, containing:
a. two of the three foundational elements (#1-3)
b. at least one, preferably two, of the additional elements (#4-9)
Make sure you can justify why you chose each of the ten total photographs and why they are good examples of photo comp for the category in which you were assigned.
The Discussion
4. When each member has compiled their candidates, each member will present the photographs to their members one category at a time.
5. Members will discuss the merits of each photograph, ensuring that they meet the minimum requirements, and try to narrow the selections down to two possibilities.
6. If there is no consensus, your group will take a vote until two are decided in that category.
7. Repeat this process for each of the six categories.
The Rationale
8. Now, each member is going to take two different categories than those originally searched for and write an accompanying article geared toward the reader for each photo pointing out the essential elements exemplified.
The Presentation
9. Now, each member is going to take two different categories than those originally assigned and create a powerpoint presentation geared toward the reader for each photo pointing out the essential elements. Each group should have one completed powerpoint to show to the class regarding their findings and be able to field questions from the audience.
